POLIGON IN THE COMMUNITY

Poligon was proud to co-sponsor a press conference against the revised executive order targeting refugees and Muslim immigrants. Click the video link above to watch. We are thankful for the leadership of Congressman Gutierrez (D-IL-4) and supporting groups for standing in solidarity with our community, immigrants, and refugees.

Poligon presented at the Townhall Dialogue Series – DC activist training titled “Turning Point:Organizing Muslim Communities for Change.” It was great to see so many people interested in learning how to make an impact for good.

Poligon President Wardah Khalid joined the “Voices of Muslim Women” panel at The George Washington University’s Islam Awareness Week, where she discussed her experience working at a faith based lobby and how her observation of a lack of political engagement among Muslims motivated her to join with others and establish Poligon.

Wardah gave a keynote address at the University of Texas in Austin, where she discussed how Poligon empowers Muslims and allies to get politically engaged on issues they care about.

MEDIA HITS

Check out Wardah’s interview about the possible impacts of the Muslim Ban 2.0 on CGTN America days before it went into effect.

Wardah also spoke on CGTN America about the rise in anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim hate crimes in the U.S., what our government should do about it, and the problem with President Trump using the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism.”

Poligon Education Fund Commends Hawaii Federal Court Decision to Halt Muslim Ban 2.0

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Poligon Education Fund Commends Hawaii Federal Court Decision to Halt Muslim Ban

Poligon Education Fund welcomes Judge Derrick K. Watson’s ruling today to issue a temporary restraining order on President Trump’s revised executive order. Once again, the judicial branch has sent a meaningful signal to the administration that the rule of law must prevail over discriminatory policies that unfairly target Muslim immigrants and refugees fleeing violence and torture, no matter how they are packaged.

While this is a temporary measure, we are pleased that the court has recognized the irreparable harm that would have been committed had the executive order gone into effect on Thursday, as originally planned. As it stated in its decision:

“The illogic of the Government’s contentions is palpable. The notion that one can demonstrate animus toward any group of people only by targeting all of them at once is fundamentally flawed.”

Poligon will continue to oppose this hateful and counterproductive proposal and urge our elected officials to do the same until we are able to strike down the Muslim Ban permanently.

Take Action: Muslim Ban 2.0 Goes Into Effect Tomorrow

Poligon Education Fund calls on American Muslims and their allies to take immediate action against the Muslim Ban 2.0 which will go into effect this Thursday, March 16, 2017. The administration’s recent attempt to tailor the Executive Order (EO) to court rulings does not change the fact that this is still an Muslim Ban. It is imperative you contact your elected officials to oppose the revised EO, as it is rooted in discriminatory intent.

Call Congress Today: Call your Senators and Representatives at (202) 224-3121 TODAY and EVERY DAY until the ban is rescinded.

Sample script: “Trump’s newest executive order singling out refugees and people from six Muslim-majority countries has the same fatal flaws as his first attempt. It does not represent American values and it violates our Constitution. As your constituent from [City, State], I implore you to do everything in your power to publicly denounce, oppose, and fight Trump’s unconstitutional Muslim ban.”

Contact the White House: Go to whitehouse.gov/contact and/or comment on a post on the White House Facebook page: Facebook.com/WhiteHouse

Use Social Media: Make sure that the President, White House, and Senators on the Judiciary Committee know you strongly oppose the President implementing executive orders that discriminate based on religion and destroy immigrant and refugee communities across the country.

Sample Tweets:
1)       #MuslimBan2 takes effect tomorrow. @SenJudiciaryCom @chuckgrassley @JohnCornyn: You must do oversight hearings https://www.aclu.org/letter/organizations-urge-oversight-hearings-trumps-immigration-executive-orders-senate
2)     #MuslimBan2 takes effect tomorrow. @HouseJudiciary: You must do oversight hearings on this unconstitutional ban https://www.aclu.org/letter/organizations-urge-oversight-hearings-trumps-immigration-executive-orders-house
3)           Dear [your Congressman’s handle]: I urge you to speak out against #MuslimBan2. It is unconstitutional and does not reflect our American values. Rescind now.
4)            .@POTUS @WhiteHouse: Rescind immigration/refugee travel ban now. You are putting vulnerable lives at risk – not making our country safer.

Poligon Education Fund Stands Against Administration’s Attempt at Muslim Ban 2.0

WASHINGTON, DC – Poligon Education Fund strongly condemns President Trump’s second attempt, via executive order, to ban Muslims from entering the United States. The guidelines – set to go into effect on March 16th, 2017 – are un-American, undermine U.S. national security, and will only increase Islamophobic sentiments across the nation.

While some changes were made – such as Iraqis being excluded from the ban, Syrian refugees no longer barred indefinitely, and the exception of green card and other visa holders – it remains at heart a Muslim ban. The revised order continues to ban men, women, and children from 6 majority-Muslim countries — Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Syria and Libya. Furthermore, the order fails to address the concerns of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals which explicitly rejected the Trump administration’s plea to reinstate the original ban on security grounds.

America’s national security is not threatened by Muslims entering the country. Rather, the Muslim community is a significant and undeniable asset to our country’s diversity, prosperity, and pride. This country is a global beacon of hope and opportunity because of its immigrants and refugees; not in spite of them.

We strongly urge members of Congress to immediately denounce these executive orders and to take whatever means necessary to prevent their implementation. Poligon Education Fund will also continue to oppose this hateful and counterproductive proposal and to demand that our elected officials and courts defend the Constitution and strike down this Muslim Ban.

Poligon Education Fund is a non profit, non-partisan charitable organization providing research and education on issues of concern to American Muslims and their allies.
