Salaam, and welcome to our April 2019 newsletter! Here’s what we were up to last month:
Poligon wishes you a Happy Ramadan! Through our trainings, research, and education, Poligon continues to amplify Muslim American voices in Congress. This month invest in Poligon so that we can represent our community!
No Ban Act
Poligon along with 384 orgs, formed a coalition to support the No Ban Act which was introduced by Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) and Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA-27). The bills, S.1123 and H.R.2214, introduced in the Senate and House respectively, aim to end the Muslim Ban and ensure that no future discriminatory policies like it can be enacted in the future. Read our full letter here and don’t forget to sign our petitionlink to support the No Ban Act!
Muslim Hill Day
Poligon joined more than 500 delegates from 25 states to meet with elected officials and congressional staffers during the US Council of Muslim Organizations’ (USCMO) fifth annual “National Muslim Advocacy Day.” Our legislative fellow, Ruwa Romman, was able to meet with Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA-7) to discuss a host of issues, like the No Ban Act.
Poligon sent out an action Alert about Senator Chris Coons and Representative Judy Chu introducing the NO BAN Act, a historic civil rights bill that would end the Muslim Ban and prevent faith-based discrimination in immigration, in the Senate and the House respectively. Urge your member of Congress to support this bill!
Poligon also sent out a newsletter about how Congress adjourned Friday, April 12 for their April recess up until Sunday, April 28. Congressional recesses are a great opportunity to directly tell your congressmen about the issues that are most important to you! Even though the recess is now over, you should schedule your visits today or call them!
Poligon invites you to our annual iftaar in DC! Join us for an evening of fellowship, delicious food, and one of the best views in the District. We’ll share updates on our mission to amplify Muslim and ally voices in Congress and how you can get engaged as we approach another critical election year. We have invited some special guest speakers so stay tuned for updates! Space is limited (tickets sold out last year) so reserve your spot now! Unfortunately, we will NOT be selling tickets at the door.
Can’t attend our Iftaar? Host one instead!
We have created an Iftar Toolkit to help you host the best Iftar for Poligon. This is a great way to raise funds and awareness for Poligon if you can’t attend our annual Iftar we host in D.C. You can choose your location, venue, and cuisine to make this Iftar your own. Download our toolkit for our tips, ideas, and steps on hosting the best Iftar this Ramadan!
We’ve been keeping you up-to-date of the latest on Capitol Hill with our Hill Happenings going straight to your inboxes every Friday.
