Letter: Urging Senate to Boost SNAP Benefits

Poligon joined, Feeding American, and nearly 2,500 organizations, in sending a letter to the Senate urging to take action and increase SNAP benefit boosts, which can help limit the economic impacts this crisis threatens to exact.

This crisis demands a response that is commensurate with its scope and seriousness. For every one meal provided through the Feeding America food bank network, SNAP can provide nine meals on the normal rails of commerce. SNAP boosts must be an important part of an effective, comprehensive response to COVID-19.

It is urgent that Congress and the White House act now to provide:

  1. a 15 percent boost in the SNAP maximum benefit that would help all SNAP households
  2. an increase in the SNAP monthly minimum benefit from $16 to $30
  3. a suspension of SNAP time limits and rules changes that would cut SNAP eligibility and benefits

ACTION ALERT: Call Congress to Condemn Police Brutality and End These Injustices

With recent incidents of police brutality against George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbury, we call on Congress to take action. These acts of violence by law enforcement officials are inexcusable as are the discrimination, institutional racism, and abuses of power that have targeted Black people across the nation for far too long.

We urge Congress to act now and pass H.R. 4408, the Eric Garner Excessive Use of Force Prevention Act, to prohibit police chokeholds and other harmful tactics that result in asphyxiation. Additionally, we urge Congress to pass and support the House Resolution introduced by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA-7), which condemns police brutality, racial profiling, and the excessive use of force.

We need your voice: Tell Congress to condemn all acts of police brutality and implement policies to end these injustices.

Check if your Representative is a co-sponsor of the billCall your Representative if they have not co-sponsored the bill (call 202-224-3121) and urge them to support the passage of H.R. 4408 and the House Resolution introduced by Rep. Ayanna Pressley, which condemns police brutality and racial profiling.

Sample Call Script:
Hi, my name is ________ and I am your constituent calling to urge you to support
H.R. 4408 to prohibit the use of violent force by law enforcement. I would also like you to co-sponsor the House Resolution introduced by Rep. Pressley, to put an end to racial profiling and anti-Black police brutality in America. I urge Representative _____ to support the passage of this bill. Will the Representative do so?
